Train Stations

Noise control in acoustically hostile environments.

Noise control in train stations is made difficult by the amount of activity present, the train engines and rolling noise, and the hard, reflective surfaces necessary for function. It is vital that announcements are heard particularly in the event of an emergency, but ambient noise levels, distance between speakers leading to delays, and the distance of hard, reflective surfaces which leads to more delayed reflections add to the challenge. These delayed signals reduce speech intelligibility as syllables seemingly merge together.

While we cannot control the effects of the distance between speakers, the materials we produce can certainly help in reducing ambient noise levels and absorbing difficult reflections.

What makes Quietstone unique here is that unlike standard sound absorption panels, it also has the durability, maintainability and longevity of typical surfaces in a train station.

Approval

Our products have approval by 4Rail for use in the London underground following our work at Heathrow express and PTA in Australia for our work in Esplanade Station, Perth and Epping to Chatswood rail tunnel.

Esplanade Station, Perth, Australia. Quietstone visable on the walls. This lowered reverberation times to reduce rail noise, improve clarity of voice announcements and provide a mosre comfortable environment for passengers
